Get Inspired!

This is one of the most important, yet often overlooked parts of a decking project and you should do this before anything else. Take a look through some gardening magazines with decking features or browse online. There a literally thousands of decking projects out there and you can get inspiration from every single one of them. You may love the colour of one but despise the style but in the end it is totally your choice. So, make sure you take plenty of time to fully understand what is possible.

Plan in Detail/Hire a Quality Decking Contractor

Once you have your idea sorted, it’s time for the technical stuff. If you are planning on doing your decking yourself, then make sure you really do plan. You need to consider timescales, materials and be confident in your own ability to do the job. If you don’t feel 100% confident you should hire a tried and trusted contractor to do the work for you. Weston Sawmill can point you to our long list of quality tradesmen who will complete your decking project in no time.

Remember Where You Live…

Britain isn’t know for it’s predictable climate or year round sunshine which you need to take into account when choosing your decking. It’s perfectly fine to take inspiration from projects in the south of France but you may need to add on a few more practical elements to ensure your decking is suitable for all seasons. You should also make sure it will match up with your existing property style as a contemporary decking setup could clash with a more traditional home.

Accessorize!

Don’t just stick with the basics. This is your decking project and will be with you for a very long time so you might as well go to town with it. Why not add some stylish lighting so you can use it at night for late night drinks and BBQs. You could also add some in-built benches and seats or even chuck in some railings to create a truly unique design for your garden. Outdoor heating equipment is also becoming more popular by the day and can be installed to keep you warm whatever the weather. The world is your oyster!

Keep an Eye on the Budget

Decking certainly doesn’t have to cost the earth to look fantastic but you should always bear in mind what you can afford throughout every stage we’ve mentioned so far. It’s perfectly fine to draw inspiration from million pound properties in Spain but do your research and you can replicate it for far less money. Christmas Trees – Choosing the right type:

You always want Christmas to be a magical time for you and your family. The centrepiece of Christmas is almost always the Christmas tree – lit up with bright lights and baubles – it’s the focus point of celebrations. With so much focus on it, it’s tricky to know which type of tree is best for you this year. Fret not! We’ve got a short guide to help you pick between the options and make your Christmas a merry one!

Fir Christmas Tree

Light ’em up! – The Right Christmas Trees:

There are two primary contenders when it comes to choosing a Christmas tree: the Fir and the Spruce. Both are excellent candidates, but they each have different criteria to consider.

The Fir is a tree that sheds yearly. They are ideal for a large outdoor display in your garden, or as part of community function. They yearly shedding can make them a rather messy choice for indoors, as the needles will scatter over your floor as they shed.

The Spruce, on the other hand, only sheds once every three-to-four years. Buying a young spruce can be an excellent decision for an indoor display and can be an excellent investment. If you were to buy a young enough Spruce, you could host it indoors on the year of purchase, care outdoors for a year and then (size permitting) bring it for the next year’s Christmas. Once your spruce has outgrown your home (or is on it’s shedding year) it can make an excellent outdoor tree.

The Advantages of Redwood Fencing:

Scots Pine, Swedish Redwood, Pinus Sylevstris – call it what you will, this tree is one of the best things to happen to the fencing industry.

Fencing, Decking, Tables, and Chairs – Empowered by Redwood Flair:

I work with Swedish Redwood every day. It’s the most common wood that we work with here at Weston Sawmill – and with good reason – it’s a brilliant crafting material.

All of our wood gates, fencing, decking, tables, chairs, posts, and the rest – they’re all made from our Swedish Redwood. All of our redwood is specially pressure treated to ensure strength, durability, and quality. For our most hardy products, our wood is then treated with a water repellent solution to help stave off the elements.

But why do we use Swedish Redwood over other woods? Simply put, it’s just that it’s flexible enough to be ideal in all elements of woodworking and joinery. The sapwood is narrow and has a creamy white to yellow colour, the heartwood can vary from a pale to deep red-brown. The timber itself is very easy to work with. It’s capable of a smooth, clean finish that can be glued, polished, and completed with a variety of finishes. It’s these properties that make Swedish Redwood an ideal choice for all of our fencing, decking, and other woodworking items.

This all builds up to the best reason for you to invest in Redwood garden furnishings – they’re durable, weather and disease resistant, and come in a varied enough range that you can easily get whatever product you need from them. This is especially true at Weston Sawmill, as we specialise in producing made to measure wooden furnishings for both domestic and agricultural applications.

You can check out the full range of our products, including a whole host of Redwood items, at our website. Weston Sawmill caters to Shropshire, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, and the surrounding West Midlands areas.
